Cartoon Ideals

I got into a discussion on another blog about Cartoon strips.

I left a fairly long reply.

So let's talk cartoons:

1. Bloom County. None better. Nuff said.

2. Bob and Dave (see www.dailyillini.com)

3. Far Side

4. Calvin and Hobbes

5. Peanuts

Honorable: Get Fuzzy, Pearls before Swine, Fox Trot, Boondocks, Artsy Fratsy (just try to find it...I dare you...I double dare you...then tell me where you found it!)

There is obviously no debate here. No argument. No discussion.

I still do "Opus" sometimes but its methodone to the Heroin of true Bloom.

I still say "Pearls Before Swine", when it's at its best, beats the rest.

And the only other one I'd add to that list is the late, great Jim's Journal, which was published up in Madison by the future founder of the Onion.

Gosh, Jim's Journal. Do you have a URL where I could find some of that? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere.

I used to be quite the strip a holic. Get fuzzy was the first one in awhile to make me fall on the floor. Pearls Before Swine is very very good. Its just, well, Bloom County had it all. I don't think I'll ever stop reading it. It's like Fawlty Towers. So good, so wonderful, though I've found some new breeds of top notch Brit coms, there's just nothing like Fawlty Towers. It's like the Bach of sit coms.

Now I have to go read some Bloom County. Scuse me.
